Life at Cedars

At Cedars, we believe that everyone is able to live creative, productive and joyous lives. That enthusiasm shines through in our holistic approach to providing individualized support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live the lives they want.

With a focus on personalized services and support of individual choices, Cedar’s warm and vibrant environment fosters personal development to allow everyone to reach their potential and thrive in their community.

Life at Cedars means being a part of a warm and inclusive environment that provides an active, community-based continuum of services that sets us apart from other programs.

Health and Wellness

The Health and Wellness Department at Cedars is funded solely by private donations. Its mission is to support the people we serve in achieving the highest level of health possible, while providing the utmost care and compassion.

We achieve this mission by:

  • Creating systems that track all aspects of our resident's health care, from podiatry to neurology and everything in between.

  • Facilitating communication between our residents and their health care providers.

  • Maintaining thorough records and comprehensive knowledge of each resident's history and individual needs, and helping them to communicate that information during medical appointments.

  • Utilizing a custom-built database that tracks all health information, behavioral changes, demographics, medications, seizures, contacts and much more. The database is on a private network enabling all thirteen residential sites and three day programs access to the information.

  • Continually striving to improve residents' access to good health care in the wake of challenges presented by the current health care environment.

Nutrition

At Cedars, we empower individuals to achieve and sustain high quality, healthy and active lives through balanced nutrition and exercise.

Achieving a consistently balanced diet with a focus on whole grains, fruits and vegetables is critical. Through the education and inspiration of Cedars staff, and of our residents and program participants, we encourage each other to take responsibility in making healthy choices.

We believe that learning about healthy eating should be fun and interesting as individuals explore new tastes and options. The plan is designed to engage participants in food exploration, selection, preparation and culinary skill building as much as possible.

Fitness

The Cedars Fitness Club is located at the Generoso Pope, Jr. Campus. Club members work out at the fitness room, and enjoy healthy snacks after their workouts. Our certified Wellness Coach continually works with clients to further their fitness progress. In Cedars Group Homes, residents have access to fitness equipment and often walk and hike around beautiful Marin County. We also have two members of our Textile Arts Collaborative Senior Program staff who are certified Professional Fitness Leaders for Adults with Special Needs. Their expanded knowledge base and enhanced skills have brought a new dimension to the Fitness Program at the Textile Arts Collaborative.

All Cedars residents have the opportunity to participate in the Special Olympics, which proves every year to be a source of excitement, motivation, and pride for Cedars athletes.

Our staff works to encourage health and fitness across all Cedars programs and residential programs.
