Susan Shipley is a painter, living in San Anselmo. She has completed coursework at UC Berkeley Extension
and College of Marin, and has studied with artists such as Donald Bradford, Christian Fagerlund, Tim Horn, Felicia Forte and Kay Carlson. She holds a BA in Economics from Rollins College and an MBA in finance from the Wharton School.

Her recent work features painted maps of American cities that reveal the profound effect that geography has on individuals’ life prospects. Many of her works are based on the Census Bureau’s Opportunity Atlas project,
which relates outcomes in adulthood to the neighborhoods where children grew up.
