JoAnne was born in 1958 and raised in San Carlos, CA. She has been living in Gilroy, CA since 1979. JoAnne began sketching at a very young age and always knew she wanted to be an artist. life got in the way and JoAnne had to wait some years before she could seriously pursue her love of art. She was in her early thirties when she started taking painting and drawing classes at her local community college. She started off with watercolors as her first medium. She currently paints with acrylics. JoAnne took a chance and entered a painting in the Gilroy Garlic Festival poster contest in 2006, she won first place. She has since won 2nd place 2008, 2010 and another 1st place in 2011. This encouraged her even more and in 2008 she decided that in order to paint daily she needed to show and sell her work. She started out by purchasing art panels and a tent and began displaying her paintings at art and wine festivals. About this time the internet was up and running and she started to sell her work online as well. She also discovered she loved painting smaller works. It helped that her art was not very large as they were easier to ship, transport and people could purchase them easily at festivals. Many years of showing her work at these events and online has given JoAnne lots of loyal collectors. Her paintings have traveled to several different countries including Japan, France, London, Australia and more.
